Here are a few quick snapshots (using an iPhone) of my trip to Logee’s today (September 15, 2014). They are located in Danielson, Connecticut. Click here to go to their website.
Logee’s Greenhouses have been in business since 1892!
In 1900, the founder bought a Ponderosa Lemon tree that was planted in the ground in the main greenhouse and it is still there today, only the greenhouse is now one of several and is called the Lemon Tree House.
Over the generations/years they began hybridizing begonias and at one point were carrying over 400 varieties.
They now specialize in tropical and fruiting plants that can be grown in pots but they also carry perennials for outdoor gardens, and have expanded their retail store to include plant care products, and garden related decor.
Walking through their greenhouses is like watching their plant catalog come alive. The greenhouses look different in February than in September, but there is always something blooming bright and beautiful to take your breath away.
While the older greenhouses have narrow aisles, you are among friends, and dodging into and out of the aisles to let people thru as they carry their new found plants during the busy weekends, is a pleasure!
In February when there are snow banks two to three feet high in my yard, there is no greater joy than to slip into their warm greenhouses and wish winter away!
